Deload

Also called: deloading

A deload is a planned easy period: lighter weights, fewer sets, or both, for a short while.

Weeks of hard training build up fatigue faster than your body can clear it. A deload lets it clear, so you start the next block fresh instead of more and more tired. It usually comes at the end of a mesocycle, over the last one or two microcycles.

In the context of HeavyTrack, the deload set type is also used for:

  • deliberate backoff sets, where you lower the weight/load in order to focus on your form
  • deliberate load reduction when you are temporarily injured
  • Mesocycle — the block a deload usually ends
  • Microcycle — the unit a deload is measured in
